We started with torrential rain that has coloured the water, but it certainly has not put the fish off, fishing the last few days has been really good, with loads of limit bags taken on differant tactics from floating lines and dries or buzzers to intermediate lines and lures, best lures have been black fritz, damsel or a white rabbit. Regular angler Alan Brownlee tempted a 13lb 8oz rainbow on a size 16 black cdc that he had tied himself, well done Alan, that was a great achievement!! Fishing this last week has been incredible, fish have really turned on and the weather has been perfect, nice and dull but not too cool. We have had loads of limit bags taken on dries, buzzers and lures, in fact just about anything has been working! P jones from Fife had a fantastic 14lb rainbow on a damsel, check the gallery, plenty of big fish have been moving and taking, but they are proving too much for most anglers, either snapping them or dropping off after some incredible runs, long may it continue!! This weekend has  seen some great sport with loads of limit bags being  taken, some taken on lures, some on dries and some on buzzers, generally almost anything was working, the only thing that made the fishing a little harder was the horrendous winds we have had for the last week. Some of the bigger fish caught this week were D McNeillie of Uphall 17lb 8oz, I wallace of ayr 14lb 4oz, R McGhee of glasgow 11lb 8oz and J McGhee of glasgow 14lb 8oz. The big fish board for the month showed 41 fish from 5lb to 17lb 8oz with an average weight of 3lb 7oz.

Evening sessions have now ended. The water temperatures have now dropped and the weather has been a little kinder to us, giving us some great fishing, buzzer action is not as consistant as normal but still good at times, best tactics now are a floating line, sink tip or intermediate and lures, best lures have been yellow dancer, black fritz, hothead damsel, minkies in white, black and orange. Some anglers are still managing to take fish from the top, local angler Peter Sinclair had three fish in three casts to the dry daddy, well done Peter!! some of the bigger fish caught lately have been a 13lb fish taken by A Reid of Alloa, a 13lb fish by M Tunnah of edinburgh a 13lb fish by G Paris and a 10lb fish by C stewart of livingston. This weekend seen some horrendous weather but it didnt stop the fish! Most anglers fishing this weekend had their limit, some to buzzers but most to intermediate lines and lures such as yellow dancer, black fritz, black/green fritz, damsels, minkies. The Bangour Fly fishing club had a great day with 74 fish for 273 3/4 lb, had to make do with chips and beans last night, well done lads!!!! Alex Wilkie had a fine 13lb 12oz rainbow, looks like Wilkie is on the board again!! The big fish board showed 51 fish between 5lb and 133/4lbs with an average weight of 3lb 4oz.

Nov09

November started with torrential rain that finally caused the water to colour up, after a couple of days the fish came back on and winter fishing fishing is becoming more consistant, buzzers are still doing well when there is a bit of heat, but lures are definately the way to go, fished nice and slow on a floating or intermediate line. The big guys have came on the feed, getting prepared for the winter months, so far we have had 12 doubles caught, with 5 being taken in 2 days, the best being a 15lb rainbow caught by D Taylord and a 15lb rainbow caught by J Patrick. Regular angler George Gillian hooked and lost a huge brownie which by all accounts would have been a new record, hard lines George!! The fishery will close on SUNDAY THE 29TH OF NOVEMBER FOR THE WINTER. The rain simply hasnt stopped here for a week!! the water is a very dirty colour, we need a few days without rain to let the silt in the water settle, hopefully it will do so for the weekend, as the water is very coloured the best tactics are a floating, sink tip or intermediate line with black lures, fished very slowly. At the weekend A McGill from edinburgh made it look easy taking his limit quickly on a black blob, well done Andy, another angler who had the catch of a lifetime was local regular angler Ronnie Weir, who managed to hook- himself, i had to carry some surgery out in the lodge and managed to get Ronnie fishing again i no time, the blood on the hook must have worked as Ronnie had 2 fish almost one after the other as soon as he went back!!! another regular angler Alex Gibson had a beautifully conditioned 11lb rainbow, Tom Wight of edinburgh had a superb blue at 8lb 10oz, check it on the gallery, this fish had been stocked as a double and had lost most of the fat to become a "bullet". D Gribble from edinburgh also had a cracking rainbow of 15lb 4oz, well done guys!!! This weekend was the end of our season and the winter competition, the weather was not kind to us, with heavy winds, a temperature just above freezing and the water very coloured due to the recent floods, the guys did well all the same, 26 anglers caught 78 fish, 62 killed for 229lb which gave us an average weight of 3lb 7oz, the heaviest bag was Billy Waterson with 4 fish for 19lb 9oz, the heaviest fish was a 13lb 8oz rainbow caught by Nigel Muckle. Well done to all the guys who took part. The big fish board for the month showed 41 fish between 5lb and 15lb 4oz with 15 doubles getting caught. The average weight of a fish for the 2009 season was 3lb 7oz. I would like to thank all the anglers who came to Bangour in the 2009 season and look forward to seeing you all in 2010. Bookings are going fast for next season, so any clubs not already booked, please contact me as soon as you can. See you all in 2010!!!!!!!

March 2010

Well we started with a bang, the weather leading up to opening day was terrible, but the gods looked down on the anglers today giving them perfect conditions, they had a field day(very unfortunate for me!!!!!!) with 89 fish killed for 331lb with some fantastic overwintered fish among them, check the gallery. Best bag of the day went to "Woody Watson" with 4 fish for 20lb 4oz. The big guys played ball from the off with doubles for R Boyes, 11lb 8oz, A Wallace 15lb 8oz, P Harrower 11lb, N Wright 14lb 4oz, T Pryde 11lb, an angler who deserves a mention was regular Stevie Johnston who managed the feat of the day by catching a superb 13lb rainbow on a dry foam body daddy, not a bad start to his season, another regular Jim Edwards managed his personal Bangour best of 9lbs 4oz to follow it up 10 minutes later with a 15lb 2oz fish, well done to all you guys. The big fish board showed 21 fish over 5lb caught today.March went well with the big fish board for the 11 days of the month showing 33 fish between 5lb and 15lb 4oz.

April 2010

Week 1.April started with high winds and snow that closed our road for two days, then it was followed by heavy rain that coloured the water quite badly, this has made fishing a little more difficult, the fish have been taken on smaller flies especially cormorants and buzzers fished quite high in the water, we have had some good hatches of black buzzers but the coloured water has held the fish from rising as freely as i would have expected in these conditions, thankfully the heavy winds have subsided and the temperature has risen, heres hoping we have a milder spell approaching, the water is also clearing a bit every day. Saturday was our troutmasters fish off, conditions were difficult due to very coloured water from the big flood earlier in the week, in first place was Craig Porteous from edinburgh, Craig led the field the whole day to finish with a bag of 17lb 8oz, second equal was J Rennie and D Avery  with 16lbs 8oz and third equal was A Weir, A Wilkie and T Pryde with 14lb 12oz, the heaviest fish of the day was a 14lb 12oz rainbow caught by A Reid. A difficult day, but well done to all who took part. Week 2, has seen a rise in temperature and the water clearing by the day, there have been some really good hatches of black buzzers which have had the fish feeding hard on them, buzzer sport has benn very good with most limit bags taken on black, olive or brown buzzers, sometimes only a few feet under a bung! Lures are still also taking fish, the best being the good old yellow dancer and the hot head damsel, but the buzzer is certainly the best bet, hopefully as the water keeps clearing we will have some good top of the water sport very soon. Week 3, the weather has turned very cold forcing the fish down most of the time, best tactics being an intermediate line and black lures, when there has been a bit of heat, the buzzer hatches have been incredible and provided some great sport mainly to black or dark brown buzzers fished surprisingly shallow, best depths have been around 2 to 6 feet. The heaviest fish of the season so far has been taken by Euan Miller from east calder, a superb fish of 16lb 12oz on a black buzzer, well done Euan. When the temperature has managed to rise and the wind dropped we have had some really good rises and fish have been taken on black cdc,s. The big fish have been pretty consistant and are showing in the returns every other day, a couple to note were J Graham 14lb 12oz and D Morrison 13lb 12oz.

May 2010

May has started with very cold and changeable weather which has kept the fish down a little for this time of year, there have been great hatches of buzzers but the fish are a bit reluctant to come up for them, again if the conditions are right, the fish have been rising freely but cold scouring winds put them off, best tactic has been buzzers on a floating line, best colour being black with yellow cheeks, red cheeks or orange cheeks, best lures have been small rabbits and hot head damsels fished on an intermediate line. Some big fish have been hooked in the last few weeks but they are proving too much for some people and are breaking them, G Little managed to land a superb 14ib rainbow, S Dallas had a 13lb 8oz rainbow and S Johnston had a 13lb rainbow, well done guys. Again this week the weather is proving to be tricky, we have went from very cold, high winds to blistering sunshine and highs of 28 degrees, this has forced the fish to go deeper, buzzers are still fishing very well but an intermediate line teamed up with a small black or white rabbit proving deadly, top pattern though has been the hot head damsel, fished deep. When we get some cloud cover a black cdc hopper or klinkhammer have been deadly. This weekend seen some fantastic top of the water sport, i managed to fish on saturday myself as we were quiet and the water was absolutely boiling with fish, i was catching easily on a harelug cdc and had terrific sport, i gave regular angler Steven Johnston a lesson on dries and he quickly picked things up to catch first of all a superb blue of 12lbs then a rainbow of 9lb, both on a harelug cdc, extemely well done Stevie. The end of the month seen 21 fish on the big fish board from 5lb to 14lb with an average weight of 3lb 3oz.

June2010

Evenings have now started and the sport has proved to be very consistant, fish are rising during the day and at night, buzzers are really fishing well with most anglers catching their limit no problem, i dont think we have had a blank angler all week!! good for the anglers, not so good for me!!! There have been some really good fish taken on dries, great to see big fish come to the top, all the lure guys really need to try the top of the water sport, i am certain they will enjoy it. Early on week 2 seen brilliant sunshine and incredible heat that forced the fish down and made things a little more difficult, end of week 2 brought cooler temperatures and some incredible top of the water sport, there have been loads of fish taken on dries with the best patterns being cdc,s in black, olive and harelug, hoppers in harelug and black. Buzzers in black olive and brown have also done really well, the evening sport is starting to get more consistant with some evenings seeing the water absolutely boiling. Some very good fish have been taken some of which have come to the dries, these have included a 14lb rainbow on a buzzer by mr Hardie, a 13lb rainbow by W Hastings of Stirling , a 16lb blue by regular buzzer guru Tony Pryde and a fantastic 16lb rainbow taken by junior angler Calum Stephen of livingston, this was part of a very quick bag taken  by young Calum, a young angler to watch for in the future!! Week 3 has brought seriously hot temperatures and still conditions which has made daytime fishing very diificult, the only guys who are getting consistant sport are the guys fishing buzzers very deep and slow, the fish are all holding in the deeper water until the evenings when they venture into the shallows for a brief period, the evenings rises have been hit and miss this week, sometimes the water has boiled when other times fish have stayed down, when best tactics have been  intermediate lines and lures, who said fishing was easy!!! We need some rain to freshen  and drop the water temperature. Week 3 has brought some very mixed days, generally the fish have been holding at the lodge end of the fishery in the deeper water, best methods have been intermediate lines and lures such as dancers and damsels or buzzers fished on a long leader, the anglers that have managed to get the depth right have found things very easy, the anglers who have not managed to get down have struggled, it is very important to get the depth right when conditions are like we have now. When we have had some overcloud the rises have been very good although a bit inconsistant for this time of year, best dries have been cdc,s in claret, black, olive and harelug, hoppers in the same colours and the dry daddy, regular angler Euan Miller made easy work of the fish this weekend with the daddy, among his catch was a fine 12lb fin perfect fish that came up for his daddy in classic style. Some other bigger fish have been a 15lb rainbow taken by tullibody angler Chris Myles, a 12lb rainbow from bothwell angler B Marsh a 14lb 12oz rainbow from fife angler Gordon Fisher and a fantastic 14lb 12oz blue caught by torphicen angler Billy Scott, well done guys!!

July 2010

Week 1 has seen some rain at last that has brought the water temperature down and the fish on big time, top of the water sport has been really good with loads of fish taken in really windy conditions, especially on the dries! Some good catches have been taken on buzzers and diawl bachs, dry daddies, hoppers in black and claret and cdc,s in black and claret, evenings have been a bit hit and miss with very cold spells at times which put the fish down forcing anglers to go deeper, We,ll hopefully get the right conditions soon!!! Week 2 has seen cooler water temperatures and warmer west winds that have given us some fantastic top of the water sport, fish are rising freely most days and best tactics are daddies, hoppers and cdc,s in black, ginger, olive and claret, diawl bachs have also been very consistant  with the top colour being the red cheeked version, some regulars have had great sport on the top including Ronnie weir who had 3 doubles in two days, Alan Brownlee who has had loads of big fish including 2 fish of 16 or 17lb lost right at the net, east lothian angler George Ritchie, who had a fish reported to be over 20lb (not witnessed by me but by 2 other anglers) great to see such big fish take from the surface!! well done guys.Week 3 has seen some spectacular rises especially in the evenings, fish have been consistantly taken on the daddy, hopper and cdc,s black, ginger and claret being the best colours, buzzer fishing has been up and down with the fish changing depths quite quickly, the intermediate lines and lures have also started to be more consistant along with a blob pulled on a fast glass. Saturday seen our summer open competition with 28 anglers taking part, fishing was on and off all day but most anglers managed to get into fish at some point, there were only 3 blanks for the day which is good for this time of year when fishing can switch on and off.  The winner of the open was Alan Miller from east calder who had 4 fish for 14lb followed by the heaviest fish this season at 17lb, then another 4 on catch and release to give him a final bonus weight of 26lb, he also had the heaviest fish of the day, second place was Bobby Watson from addiewell with 4 fish  for 16lb 12oz, third equal were Euan Miller from east calder and Scott Stirling from falkirk with 16lb, a total of 65 fish were killed for 221lb giving an average weight of 3lb 4oz. Tom Begbie had the second heaviest fish of the day with a fish of 13lb. There have been lots of big fish showing and getting caught, with regular fish in the teens breaking anglers, regular angler Alan Brownlee had a superb 12lb fish on a dry, well done Alan. The last few days of the month have seen the fish turn on and off very quickly, periods of sport are followed closely by very dour periods when fish have completely switched off, typical of this time of the year. The big fish board for july seen 35 fish between 5lb and 17lb with an average weight for the month at 3lb 5oz.

August 2010

August has started with some tricky fishing, we have had loads of fish rising but they have proved very difficult to catch, although some anglers have made it look very easy. Bobby Quinn from glasgow really got in among them with tiny dries and buzzers, well done Bobby! We have had some days with fish being taken all over the fishery, whilst other days the fish have proved very dour! hopefully the dour spells will not last long! Best dries have been daddies, cdc,s and sedges with the top lures yellow dancer and damsel, the buzzer fishing has not been as sproductive lately as woiuld be expected at this time of year. We have had some big fish taken lately, quite a few on the dries, amongst them have been G Fisher of fife 13lb 4oz, J Hunter of stirling, 14lb 4oz and Billy watterson of airdrie 13lb 8oz.Week 2 has seen the dreaded august blues set in, some days the fish have been rising all day, the next, nothing!! fishing has been like the weather, very mixed with 36 degrees one day followed by 14 degrees the next!!! We have some brilliant evenings rises, again down to the conditions. This weekend seen a new 2010 record with a 20lb rainbow caught by armadale angler Ross Codona, other big fish have been, D Farmer of east calder 13lb, E Quinn of glasgow 10lb, A Mitchell of stirling 12lb and R Batton of ayr 13lb. Week 3 has been very up and down, with fish being caught on lures mainly, however today has seen a brilliant rise with the water boiling from 9 o,clock this morning right into this evening, the fish have been taking small black emergers, some very good bags have been taken on black and peacock spiders, black emergers and diawl bach,s hopefully the hard period has now passed and the fish have settled back to feed, regular angler Billy Scott from torphicen had a beautiful 18lb rainbow yesterday on a damsel, the fish was spectacular and proved a real handful for Billy to land, well done! The end of the month seen some very changelable conditions, some days we have had galeforce winds, others scorching sunlight, this has made the fishing very inconsistant, some days all fish have been taken on lures and intermediates, other days diawl bachs and buzzers have been the killers! We have had some great sport with the big fish lately, when hooked some of the fights we have witnessed have been incredible, with one fish in particular, a 13lb blue caught by regular Steven Dallas from motherwell that  jumped clear of the water and somersaulted at least six times, great to see fish that size fighting so well, R Codona from armadale had a beautiful 20lb rainbow that stands at this years record, Eileen Quinn had a 11lb blue on a bloodworm, we had 15 doubles landed for the month and 45 fish over 5lb, the average weight for the month was 3lb 6oz.
